How to Cloak Your Tracking Link

by PixelTrakk Team

When you’re submitting guest posts, or purchasing email ads, you don’t necessarily want a PixelTrakk tracking link smack dab in the middle… you want YOUR URL in there.

We get it…

We’re working on a solution for that in a future update, but in the meantime here is how you can “cloak” your link so that it tracks your clicks and conversions while still having your domain name.

Cloak Your Tracking Link Using A Redirect Html File

Objective:  How to cloak your PixelTrakk Tracking link using basic html file.
Time Required:
5-10min
Tools You’ll Need:

  • HTML Editor or  Text Editor – with option to select a New HTML Document.

  • Hosting Login

  • Pixeltrakk tracking link

Procedure:
Step 1

  1. Download THIS basic html redirect file. <<Right Click and Select “Save File As”

  2. Open that file in your Basic HTML Editor.

  3. Locate where it says ENTER PIXELTRAKK LINK (there are two locations)

  4. Replace  ENTER PIXELTRAKK LINK with your pixeltrakk tracking link

  5. Save and rename the file to the name of the page you’re tracking – (or whatever you wish to call it). Example: lp1.html

Step 2

  1. Login to your Hosting account – and select file upload.

  2. Locate the Upload button (normally in the top navigation) and upload your new document.

  3. Open new tab and enter, http://YOURWEBSITENAME.com/WHATYOUNAMETHEFILE.html

  4. If it redirects to the correct page, then you should check pixeltrakk to ensure the click was tracked. If so, you did everything correctly.

Cloak Your Tracking Link Using Your Cpanel

Objective:  To cloak your tracking link so that it has your domain name in it, while still tracking your clicks and conversions through PixelTrakk.
Time Required:
5 -10 mins
Tools You’ll Need:

  • Hosting Account

  • Access to Hostgator Cpanel

  • Basic HTML  website

  • Redirect URL

  • PixelTrakk Tracking link

Procedure:

  1. Login to your cpanel

  2. Locate the search bar on the left and type in “redirect” (notice the pop ups on the right hand side of your cpanel)

  3. Click on the Redirect option

  4. Select Permanent

  5. Enter in the Redirect URL – this is what you want someone to type in to find your landing page. Example: http://yourwebsitename.com/landingpage1

  6. Enter in the Tracking URL – this should be the PixelTrakk Tracking link.

  7. Select the button – without WWW

  8. Save

  9. Now, check that it’s working correctly by typing in the redirect url you created. My example was http://yourwebsitename.com/landingpage1
If it redirects to the correct page, then you should check pixeltrakk to ensure the click was tracked.
